Lara Luís is a Portuguese illustrator, graphic designer and visual artist — and a full-time overthinker. With a degree in Graphic Design and Advertising and a specialisation in Illustration and Comics, Lara Luís has more than 15 years of experience in creativity, advertising and art direction. Throughout her career, Lara Luís has worked with brands, cultural initiatives and editorial projects, while continuing to develop a distinctive artistic universe of her own.
Lara Luís draws much of her inspiration from everyday life, emotions and the thoughts we usually prefer to keep to ourselves. Black and white remains her visual language of choice, although Lara Luís is slowly learning to appreciate colour — and to let it find its way into her work. Her characters and small visual narratives bring together humour, vulnerability, tenderness and a quietly unconventional way of looking at the world. The work of Lara Luís transforms insecurities, relationships, anxiety, self-love and seemingly ordinary moments into images that are easy to connect with. Through illustration, design, exhibitions, collaborations and illustrated objects, Lara Luís aims to create art that is not only beautiful, but also has something to say — even when that something is slightly uncomfortable, unexpected or difficult to put into words.
